Prayer times for Varanasi
These namaz timings are calculated for Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, at 25.3176° N, 82.9739° E. Varanasi keeps India Standard Time (IST, UTC+5:30; time zone Asia/Kolkata), one clock for the whole country with no daylight saving. Times are worked out on your phone for each date with the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi method (Fajr and Isha at 18° below the horizon) and Hanafi Asr, the school followed by most Muslims in India.
Because Varanasi lies 0.5° east of the 82.5° E meridian on which IST is based, the sun crosses the local meridian about 2 minutes earlier by the clock than it does on that meridian, so Zuhr here averages about 11:58 AM across the year. During 2027, Fajr is earliest around 6 June (3:38 AM) and latest around 11 January (5:25 AM), while Maghrib moves between 5:07 PM in November and 6:53 PM in June. The longest day of fasting, from Fajr to Maghrib, is about 15 h 13 min in June and the shortest about 11 h 55 min in December. The seasons move the times noticeably, but less than in the far north.
Varanasi, on the Ganga in eastern Uttar Pradesh, has a long-established Muslim weaving community behind its famous Banarasi silk. For jama'at, follow your local masjid's timetable.
